2026TIFA Artist Bookshelf
Some encounters happen before you’re ready for them.
For 2026, the Artist Bookshelf at the Performing Arts Library takes “Secret Codes of Acquaintance” and “Everyday Life on a Typhoon Day” as its guiding themes — an invitation to sit with both the stillness of solitude and the quiet electricity of meeting a stranger. Drawing from the faceted geometry of TIFA’s main visual identity, each shelf compartment is designed as a compact, fragmented space where impossible perspectives collide. Like inspiration itself, meaning here refuses to travel in a straight line.
The artists’ recommended texts are transformed into what we call “reading codes” — printed on letter paper, folded or unfolded, each carrying a different charge. A folded note suggests a private afternoon: the kind of reading that happens alone on a stormy day, tucked into a corner of the shelf, waiting. An unfolded note is a gesture of reaching out — the artist’s words now made public, suspended along the viewer’s path, ready to be encountered without warning. Both states coexist within the same shelf, mirroring the two themes, and leaving the viewer free to choose their own point of entry: follow a recommendation toward the collection, or let the collection lead you back to the artist’s way of seeing.
Beyond the exhibition space, the notes take on yet another form. Rolled into the shape of flowers and held inside open books, they drift quietly through the performance halls of the National Theater and Concert Hall — small, unhurried invitations planted before the exhibition even begins. The first code, encountered by chance. The lightest kind of meeting.
The bookshelf is where artists, collections, and viewers briefly share the same space. Not a destination, but a place to exchange signals.
